Job Overview:

 

The Director of Logistics oversees operational activities of all company transportation by performing a variety of duties. This position works closely with all levels of Kamps management to assure operational efficiency, DOT compliance, and proper management and maintenance of our tractor and trailer assets.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Direct activities for a department with 6,000+ trailers and over 200 Drivers.
  • Assure all of Kamps and DOT safety standards are adhered to at all times.
  • Oversee a driver incentive program, considering safety, mileage and idle time.
  • Oversee the daily workflow, schedules, and assignments of transportation employees.
  • Oversee compliance with all DOT regulations; such as driver logs, medical certifications, driver hours compliance, etc.
  • Ensures that Kamps has an acceptable CSA score
  • Ensures that customer difficulties or problems are investigated and resolved.
  • Negotiates and secures contracts with transportation providers and customers.
  • Manage the trailer pool; buy trailers, arrange and schedule inspections.
  • Manage trailers at the various plants calculating the amount per customer and total amount per plant.
  • Manage leasing of trucks for all plants.
  • Calculate need for single or tandem axel tractors, types of runs, and fuel mileage savings.
  • In collaboration with other managers, develops and implements policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for transportation operations.
  • Manage any brokered transportation, working with carriers to reduce trucking costs, comparing internal and brokered costs to make best shipping decisions.
  • Manage fuel programs
    • Develop strategies to reduce fuel expenses and increase mileage of fleet. Evaluate current programs and equipment.
  • Manage IFTA compliance
  • Create and distribute monthly reports for brokered transportation costs.
  • Compare all plant locations and work with plants on lowering transportation costs.
  • Ensure dispatchers are trained in all Kamps locations.
  • Assure uniformity of all plant locations of dispatch/customer service position.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of experience in the transportation industry, specifically fleet management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong logistical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software, Verizon Connect, and Tenstreet experience preferred
